At the beginning of the year, I decided to focus my Bible reading on Jesus’ words. I bought a red letter edition of the New Testament for my iPad. The joke was on me; there were no red letters. 🙂
Each day I read a section, highlight the words of Jesus, and ponder His meaning. There’s almost always a phrase that penetrates deep. Yesterday was no different.
Except that yesterday, it wasn’t His words but His compassion that grabbed me.
Jesus heard the horrific details about His forerunners death. The “head on a platter” news pushed him toward the Father.
Jesus, man and God, needed a break.
But crowds followed Him. Instead of needed personal time, He had compassion on the people and healed them.
The disciples said, “Send them away.”
I expected Jesus to think like I would: Finally, I get my alone time. Instead He wants them fed.
When my head hit the pillow, I cried with compassion for Jesus. He wanted to get away but chose to heal. Instead of a break, Jesus served a feast.
What do you do when you need a break?
